Frying pans at the ready as Dorchester residents gear up for the annual Marie Curie pancake race.

The Pancake Day racing will be held on Tuesday, February 13 from 4pm at the Borough Gardens.

The Mayor of Dorchester Councillor Sue Hosford, Town Crier Alastair Chisholm and Marie Curie’s Daffy will be taking part in the races.

The event kicks off Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal in Dorchester and sees people of all ages come out and race.

This is the second year that Anita Harries has organised the event.

Previous organiser Richard Crosby said: “I am so grateful that Anita Harries has agreed to take on running the Marie Curie Pancake Race for the Dorchester Fundraising Group.

“With only a little persuasion, and a little arm twisting, she has taken on the Pancake Race with her usual enthusiasm.”

Anita said: “For those who came along, last year’s pancake race was a great deal of fun, despite the whether which could have been better.

“Marie Curie is such an excellent cause it would be great to build on the success of last year and help raise the profile and hopefully some money for this charity.

“We are fortunate to have Rob Scott of Brown Goose sponsoring the Pancake Race, so not only will he be providing pancakes for the race but, for a small donation, you can even enjoy eating some.”

Pancakes will be provided by Rob Scott, chef at Brown Goose catering company.

Rob said: “We are getting involved as last year we took part in the race and saw what a fun day it was.

“Marie Curie is a really worthwhile cause and we wanted to help in some way.

“We felt providing the pancakes would be a flipping good way to do it.

“In all seriousness, we saw how much fun it was and wanted to help in a way we felt we were most suited to.”

The event kicks off Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal in Dorchester and sees people of all ages come out and race.

Little lapel daffodils will be on sale in the coming weeks in South Street.

All money raised will be used to help fund the Marie Curie nurses in Dorset.
