A Dorchester group is hosting a Community Fun Day, to try and help members get back into employment.

Local families and people are invited to enjoy a free fun day and meet local creative people on Saturday, February 17.

The Inspire Together event is being run by the Inspire Dorset group as part of a programme funded by the European Social Fund and the National Lottery, through the Big Lottery Fund.

The group aims to connect the community with aspiring artists, musicians and photographers, whilst developing their own skills and employability.

The group has been auditioning people for the last five or six weeks at The Little Keep, Dorchester, as well as planning for its event.

The event itself will take place from 11am until 4pm at The Corn Exchange.

The day is free to attend, and will showcase local art, music, performing arts, crafts, jewellery, photograph and more.

Deputy Mayor Tim Harries will be attending the event.

There will be workshops on bookbinding and sketching, as well as stalls for families to visit.

The group is doing it as members are all unemployed and want to prove they can run an event.

Lee Woods, a member of the group said: “The project has done me the world of good by being involved in something worthwhile.

“Working with a team to organise this event for the community has helped me remember what I am capable of, and reminded me of my previous successes.

“Come join in and be a part of your community, make use of this event and see if there is something new you would like to be involved in.”

Inspire Dorset offers the opportunity to learn by testing an enterprise, alongside benefitting from coaching and training.

The organisation works creatively with groups and individuals from varied backgrounds to support them on a life changing journey towards employment or self-employment.

This flexible approach aims to provide an alternative to mainstream employment, which many of the participants have never experienced.
