Residents at Weymouth Care Home marked Dignity Action Day by creating their own ‘Dignity Tree’.

The leaves of the tree included words chosen by the residents to represent what dignity means to older people.

Words included company, patience, friendship and happiness and staff worked alongside residents to help them create the tree, which will sit in the care home as a reminder of the importance of respecting dignity in care.

Dignity Action Day, which was held at the beginning of the month, gives everyone the opportunity to contribute to upholding people’s rights to dignity and provide a truly memorable day for people receiving care.

The event aims to ensure people who use care services are treated as individuals and are given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily lives.
