The RSPCA is working with the owner of two ponies on Portland after it was decided that their plot of land is not suitable.

Police were contacted by members of the public reporting the concern for the welfare of two ponies on Clovens Road on Portland.

Officers from Portland police and the RSPCA both attended the location along with a vet on Thursday February 15 and spoke to the owner.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "We would like to reassure the public that the ponies were in fact well looked after and in good health, but at present the field where they are situated is not suitable.

"The RSPCA is now working with the owner in order to improve their current field or identify a more suitable plot of land for the ponies to live and we hope this will be resolved in the next few weeks.

"We would like to thank everyone for bringing this to our attention, but ask that people do not attend the location and feed the ponies themselves as that may lead to health-related issues."
