Beer lovers are in for a treat as a new festival comes to Weymouth, held in memory of a local resident.

The charity craft beer festival will be held in memory of Wyke Regis resident, Mark Martin over the weekend of what would have been his 41st birthday.

Mark died aged 36, of glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive cancer which starts in the brain, following a brave battle against the disease.

The festival will raise crucial funds for charity Brain Tumour Support.

Organiser Elaine Milton said: “Mark was a gregarious and popular man, and a much-missed friend, and we are doing our best to make this weekend something that he would have thoroughly enjoyed. We have a great line-up of beer, including an incredibly special stout which has been brewed just for this festival and will never be available anywhere else, by a brewer whose recent online bottle release sold out in less than two minutes.”

Taking place at the Wyke Smugglers over the weekend of March 17 and 18, the event will feature quality beers from both local and national independent brewers.

Twelve casks and five kegs will be available to choose from, and brewers featured include Verdant, Wild Weather, Elusive Brewing, Odyssey, Tempest and Vibrant Forest as well as popular local brews from Cerne Abbas, Eight Arch and The Way Outback.

There will also be some more traditional cask beer available from regional family brewers St Austell.

“I hope that people can come along and raise a glass in celebration of Mark’s life and help us raise money for this very worthy cause,” Elaine said.

Brain Tumour Support are a regional small charity, who provided Mark with a considerable amount of support during his illness.

Mark’s friends have come together to organise the festival in his memory, and hope to raise at least £2,000 for this cause.

Entry cost £5 and includes a programme and a commemorative glass.

Tickets can be purchased from the Wyke Smugglers, or via the Facebook event page for Weymouth Craft beer Festival.
