Various community events have been cancelled due to the wild weather.

Organisers of the Jurassic Skyline Charity Abseil, due to take place in Weymouth this Sunday (March 4), have taken the decision to postpone the event.

Current weather conditions, combined with the weekend forecast, make it too dangerous for the challenge to go ahead safely.

Firefighters from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service had been organising the abseil, in partnership with Jurassic Skyline.

Justin Rolls, from Weymouth Fire Station, said: "We desperately didn't want to postpone, as we have thirty members of the public all raring to go and busy raising money for our charities. However, with the snow, bitter cold and strong winds, we'd rather wait and hopefully get better conditions. The plan now is to try again on Sunday, April 22, so we all have our fingers crossed for sunshine."

Tamsin Mutton-McKnight, general manager of Jurassic Skyline, said: "The safety of the abseilers is our utmost priority and we look forward to the event taking place when the weather has improved."

The abseil will benefit the Fire Fighters Charity, SafeWise, Merlin's Magic Wand, the Sea Life Trust and Julia's House Hospice.

Meanwhile, a running event at Lulworth Cove due to take place tomorrow has been cancelled due to health and safety concerns.

The Durdle Door campsite where most of the runners were staying has been closed until next Tuesday.

A spokesman for the Trail Events team said: "We are very sorry that this weather has put pay to this event, but we will work very hard to make sure that it goes ahead at a new date very soon."

Purbeck District Council postponed yesterday afternoon's consultation on new homes.

It has been rearranged for Thursday, March 8 from 2pm until 5pm in the Council Chamber, Wareham.

A bingo event at Dorchester Football Club due to take place tonight has been cancelled.

Here's the forecast over the coming days and keep up to date on disruption on the rails and roads.
