AN ELDERLY woman injured in a crash in Weymouth sadly died in hospital just over a week later, police said.

The woman was injured in a collision as she crossed Littlemoor Road at Littlemoor, and her condition at first was not thought life threatening.

However her condition in hospital deteriorated and she died this week, some nine days after the crash.

Dorset Police are now appealing for witnesses and information into what is now being investigated as a fatal road traffic collision.

At 10.35am on Monday, February 26, Dorset Police received a report of a collision involving a black Ford Fiesta and a pedestrian on the A353 Littlemoor Road, just east of the junction with Chelwood Close.

The Echo reported on the incident at the time, and said how South Western Ambulance had dispatched ambulances to the scene, as well as the air ambulance.

The pedestrian involved, an 88-year-old woman from Weymouth, was taken to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester and then later transferred to Southampton.

Dorset Police said her injuries were not initially believed to be life-threatening.

However, very sadly the woman died on the evening of Wednesday, March 7.

The driver of the Fiesta involved in the collision was uninjured.

Borough and county councillor for Broadwey Cllr Kevin Brookes said his thoughts go out to the woman’s family and friends.

He said: “It is sad to hear this news. My thoughts go out to the family and friends of the lady and I hope the police are successful in their appeal for witnesses, and can get to the bottom of what has happened as quickly as possible.”

Sergeant Joe Pardey, of the traffic unit, said: “We were very sad to learn that the pedestrian involved in this collision has died and our thoughts are with her family.

“We are continuing to investigate this incident and I would ask any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to contact us.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was driving along Littlemoor Road around the relevant time and has any dash cam footage of the incident to get in touch.”
