Two men were arrested during an armed police swoop in connection with an armed robbery in north Dorset. 

At 5.45am on March 5, police were called to reports that a man armed with a handgun had entered One Stop on Station Road in Sturminster Newton. 

He reportedly threatened a member of staff and stole a quantity of cash before leaving the shop.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

Following police enquiries, a 26-year-old man from Stalbridge was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possessing a firearm in a public place and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

A 24-year-old Sturminster Newton man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit robbery and is also assisting officers with their enquiries.

Officers are still appealing for any witnesses who were in the area of Station Road at the time of the reported robbery or anyone with information about the incident to contact police.

Detectives are also urging anyone with private CCTV or dashcams in their vehicles to check their systems at the relevant times.
