A young Dorchester fundraiser has been on a mission to raise funds for a hospice charity after they took care of her grandfather.

Imogen Brown, 14, raised more than £1,800 at a fundraising event for Weldmar Hospice in her latest effort to raising much-needed funds for the charity.

The hospice charity is close to Imogen’s heart, as Weldmar Hospicecare cared for Imogen’s grandfather, Chris Dufall, during 2015.

The following year, Imogen began fundraising for Weldmar, and to date has raised a staggering £4,712.91 for the charity.

The total money raised at the most-recent bingo event, held at St Mary’s Catholic First School, was an impressive £1,828.

Imogen’s mum, Kerry, said Imogen hosted the bingo night and managed to sell all of the 120 tickets within a week.

"All of the prizes were requested by Imogen and kindly donated, so 100 per cent of the takings go to Weldmar," she said.

"As a family we would like to thank all of the businesses and friends who donated prizes and our family, friends and new friends - people who we didn't know before but now come to her events - for their ongoing support”.

Weldmar Hospicecare is a charity that provides end of life care for people living in Dorset who need specialist support.

They employ nurses, doctors, therapists, social workers plus offering counselling services. Supported by trained volunteers, their teams work in patients’ homes, their hospice and the community.

However, the NHS contribute just 25 per cent of the charity's costs leaving Weldmar needing to raise £10,240 per day to fund their free of charge services.

Caroline Hamblett, chief executive of Weldmar Hospicecare, said: “I would like to thank Imogen, and her family, for all their hard work. The money they have raised will help us to continue to provide our outstanding care across Dorset, supporting our patients and their families where and when they need us most – in their homes, in a local hospital in our hospice, or over the phone."
