World War II comes to Portland this weekend as Castletown at War recreates the era's sights and sounds.
Castletown D-Day Centre and English Heritage Portland Castle have teamed up to create Castletown at War, a living history event that commemorates the establishment of a US Army field hospital on Portland as part of the preparations for the Normandy landings.
There will be plenty for families to see and do, including displays of vehicles and weapons and reenactments of some of the events that took place in Castletown in the period culminating in D-Day.
The Coastline Cruises ferry ‘My Girl’, that served in and around Portland Harbour during the war will also be joining in the commemorations by carrying reenactors from Weymouth to Castletown.
Castletown at War is on today, Saturday, and tomorrow, Sunday, between 10 am and 4 pm.
