A GROUP is is asking for an extra £20,000 grant to improve its community hall.

West End Community Association in Sherborne has almost finished building a larger kitchen, a small meeting room and new toilets which it says will allow more people to use the building.

Estimates of the cost had come in at £328,500 – of which £200,000 has already been pledged by West Dorset District Council. Other funders include a grant offer of £54,000 from Viridor Credits Environmental Company and £52,000 from other sources including The Simon Digby Memorial Trust.

The association is asking for the extra money to meet unexpected items during the building work and to pay for a new pitched roof over the bar area. A similar request for £20,000 has also been made to the Simon Digby Memorial Trust which is administered by Sherborne Town Council.

The request will be considered by the WDDC Strategy Committee on Tuesday, April 24.
