HISTORY TALK

A TALK will be held by Lillian Ladle at the Dorford Centre on the Druce Farm Roman Villa on Thursday, May 26.

Lillian will be speaking on behalf of the Dorchester Association for Research into Local History and Archaeology.

The talk will start at 7.30pm and everyone is welcome.

BIG BREKKIE

THE Dorford Centre is hosting a free Big Brekkie from 9.15am until 10.15am on Sunday, April 29

The breakfast is being held in support of Christian Aid.

There will be quizzes and films to watch about the work of Christian Aid.

FAMILY FUN DAY

A FAMILY Fun Day will be held at the Borough Gardens from 11am until 2pm on Monday, May 7.

The event will be raising funds for The Grove Pre-School Playgroup.

There will be live music by The Mill Street Jazz Band and events organised by Friends of the Borough Gardens and a pirate treasure hunt by the pre-school.

Refreshments will be available and families are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy the bank holiday.

CINEMA SCREENING

IT will be a real ‘Doris Day’ when Evergreens Cinema plays host to an afternoon devoted to the film star Doris Day in celebration of her 96th birthday. This will place at Age UK Dorchester on Wednesday, May 9.

There will be a musical tribute to Doris with clips and songs from her many movies, followed by the sparkling comedy film Pillow Talk.

Rock Hudson, Doris’ favourite leading man, helped make this film a major box office hit back in 1959. With its new brand of sophisticated comedy and was the forerunner of all those romantic comedies we all love today. This will be a real treat for all Doris Day fans and a wonderful afternoon filled nostalgic memories.

The cinema lights will dim at 1.45pm, tea and biscuits will be served during the showing for just £1.50.

CRICKET SESSIONS

Dorchester Cricket Club is hosting sessions for five to eight-year-olds

The sessions will start next month, with the first being on Saturday, May 26 at the Dorchester Recreation Ground. They will then continue every Saturday thereafter for eight weeks.

The cricket sessions will run from 10am until 11am.

TAI CHI DAY

A WORLD Tai Chi Day will be held in the Borough Gardens on Saturday, April 28.

It will run from 9.30am until 12noon and everyone is encouraged to come along.

HELP A FRIEND

A FAMILY fun day will be held on Saturday, April 28 from 2pm until 5pm at Kings Road Playing Field.

Everyone is welcome to come and join in the fun.

HARDY'S BIRTHDAY

A NUMBER of events have been organised on Saturday, June 2 to celebrate the birthday of Thomas Hardy.

There will be a three to four-mile walk on Egdon Heath in the footsteps of Eustacia Vye, visiting Rainbarrow, Mistover Knap and Bloom’s End. Anyone interested should meet at Thorncombe Wood car park at 10.30am and will be led by Tony Fincham.

In the afternoon there will be a lecture Profesor Roger Ebbatson with a location to be confirmed,

At 5pm Dorchester Town Council along with representatives from the Thomas Hardy Society will be laying wreathes at the Thomas Hardy statue at Top O’ Town. They then will proceed down High West Street to lay a second wreath at the statue of William Barnes outside St Peter's Church.

SUMMER TUNES

A SUMMER concert will be held at the Corn Exchange on Sunday, May 13 from 3.30pm.

Dorchestra, Dorchester's community orchestra will be performing with the Quangle Wangle Choir.

A DAY IN DORCHESTER

THE Friends of the Congregational Library have organised a summer event.

It will be held on Saturday, June 2 from 11am until 4pm at the United Church on South Street.

The day will include a number of lectures, such as: 'William Benn and the Great Ejectment', 'McClune Uffen, 1891-1911', 'Thomas Hardy's Congregational Schooling' and 'The Casterbridge Congregationalists'.

Refreshments at the beginning and the end of the day, as well as during lunch hour. Admission is free, and there will be a retiring collection. Anyone interested is encouraged to bring their own packed-lunch.

GAMES CONVENTION

A GAMES convention will be held at the Corn Exchange and Town Hall on Saturday, April 28.
