Two men were arrested and drugs seized after police raided premises in Weymouth.

The two arrested were being quizzed on suspected drug supply offences, Dorset Police said. They have now been released under investigation.

Residents told how numerous police vehicles swooped on a road in Westham yesterday morning as the force carried out a drugs operation at premises.

Sniffer dogs and forensic teams were involved supporting regular officers in the operation.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "At 8.17am on Wednesday April 25, officers executed a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a premises on Holly Road in Weymouth.

"A quantity of what is believed to be Class A and Class B drugs was recovered and seized."

The spokesman added: "A 26-year-old Weymouth man was arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A and Class B drugs with intent to supply.

"A 39-year-old Weymouth man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a Class A drug with intent to supply. Both men are assisting officers with their enquiries."

Police confirmed it was a commercial address where the initial warrant was executed.

The force said today (Thursday) that two further residential addresses in Weymouth were searched following the arrest of the two men.

At one of these addresses a further amount of what was believed to be Class A and Class B drugs was located.

One resident told of their shock as several police vehicles swooped on Holly Road yesterday.

They said: "I saw two police cars in the road including one parked at an angle like the driver had left it in a hurry. Another police car was parked opposite and there was a van too.

"When I went past there was at least four police officers, including one with his arm on someone who had their hands behind their back.

"I don't know what it was all about but it was obviously something serious for all those police to be there."

The Echo attempted to contact the premises involved for comment.

Sergeant Andy Jenkins, of Weymouth police, said: “Dorset Police will always act on information relating to suspected drug misuse and dealing and we would encourage anyone with information about such activity in their area to contact us.

“Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team have been listening to the community and acting on information provided.
