Here's what's on in Dorchester over the coming weeks.

A DAY IN DORCHESTER

THE Friends of the Congregational Library have organised a summer event.

It will be held on Saturday, June 2 from 11am until 4pm at the United Church on South Street.

The day will include a number of lectures, such as: 'William Benn and the Great Ejectment', 'McClune Uffen, 1891-1911', 'Thomas Hardy's Congregational Schooling' and 'The Casterbridge Congregationalists'.

Refreshments at the beginning and the end of the day, as well as during lunch hour.

Admission is free, and there will be a retiring collection.

Anyone interested is encouraged to bring their own packed-lunch.

HARDY'S POETRY

ENJOY learning about Hardy’s poetry through pictures at Dorset County Museum.

The exhibition will run at the museum from Monday, May 14 until Tuesday, May 29 and is by Jennifer Martindale.

SUMMER CONCERT

A SUMMER concert will be held at the Corn Exchange on Sunday, May 13 from 3.30pm onward.

Dorchestrea, Dorchester's community orchestra will be performing with the Quangle Wangle Choir.

ON THE HUNT

A TREASURE hunt has been organised at the Tutankhamun Exhibition on High West Street. It will run from Saturday, May 26 until Sunday, June 3.

QUIZ NIGHT

A QUIZ night with Angus Mclntyre will be held at Brownsword Hall in Pummery Square in Poundbury on May 25.

Doors will open at 7pm and a 7.30pm start.

MUSEUM TALK

HELEN Angear will be giving a talk at Dorset County Museum on Thursday, May 31 from 7pm.

The talk will be on Thomas Hardy and his fans.

MORNING YOGA

Six morning yoga classes, run by Sharon from Dorchester Yoga and Therapy Centre, will be held on the decking outside the centre adjacent to Thorncombe Wood Local Nature Reserve.

The focus is on connecting to nature through yoga practises.

A GOOD SHOW

ELIZABETH Salmon will be taking about 'what makes a good show' at the Dorset Centre for Creative Arts on Middle Farm Way in Poundbury.

It will be held on Friday, May 4 from 6.30pm until 8.30pm and will include refreshments.

FAMILY FUN DAY

A FAMILY fun day will be held at the Borough Gardens from 11am until 2am on Monday, May 7.

The event will be raising funds for The Grove Pre-School Playgroup.

There will be live music by The Mill Street Jazz Band and events have been organised by the Friends of the Borough Gardens and the playgroup.

Children will be able to enjoy a treasure hunt.

Refreshments will be available and families are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy the bank holiday.

ORCHESTRA PERFORMANCE

THE Dorchester Chamber Orchestra will be performing at St Mary’s Church on Saturday, May 12.

The performance will start at 7.30pm and will include classical music such as Vivaldi and Mozart.

ROMAN TALK

A TALK on the Late Iron and Roman Age will be held at the Dorford Centre from 7.30pm on Saturday, May 12.

There be a range of speakers talking on behalf of the Dorchester Association for Research into local History and Archaeology.

THE Durnovia Silver Band will be performing at the Borough Gardens from 2.30pm on Sunday, May 13.

They will be one of the first bands taking to the stand this year.

LOCAL CONNECTIONS

THE William Barnes Society has organised a talk at the Dorford Centre from 7pm onwards on Tuesday, May 15.

It is entitled, ‘The Serpent and its Local Connections’ and will include a talk, music and poetry by Phil Humphries.

CRAFT ACADEMY

A HALF term craft academy will be held at Dorset County Museum

It will run from 10.30am until 3.30pm on Wednesday, May 30.

COACHING DAYS OF DORSET

ROB Curtis will be giving a talk at the Dorford Centre on behalf of the Dorchester Association for Research into local History and Archaeology.

It will be held on Thursday, May 31 and is entitled 'Turnpikes and Dorset's Coaching Days'.

It will start at 7.30pm and everyone is welcome.
