WEYMOUTH dog owners are in for a treat as one of the town’s biggest events has added a new addition for man’s best friend.

Weymouth Carnival has announced that it will host a dog show on the first day of the two-day event – Tuesday, August 14 – on Weymouth Beach from 10am.

All dog owners can enter their pooch into categories to win the waggiest tail, best behaved, best pose, fancy dress, most fluffy, cutest puppy, cutest older dog, best trick, biggest smile and the dog that can eat the sausage the quickest.

Prizes are up for grabs for the best pooches.

Alongside this, there will also be several other dog-friendly activities yet to be confirmed and advice sessions for dog owners on how to keep cool in the summer.

The debut year of the competition is being sponsored by the Fantastic Sausage Factory, which is owned by Dennis Spurr, which will be producing a special dog-friendly sausage for all breeds at the event using a secret recipe.

Dennis said: “We get involved with different charities and community events and the carnival is a wonderful thing to get involved in.

“If anyone knows me, I love dogs and have over six myself including a Staffie and a Pug.

“I’m looking forward to meeting all of the dogs and presenting the awards.

“If anyone knows me, we have a constant procession of pooches that come here every day so this year we are producing a sausage especially for dogs.”

Stacey Andrew, chairman of Weymouth Carnival, said: “It’s absolutely fantastic to have the Fantastic Sausage Factory sponsoring the dog show.

“The dog sausage idea is fantastic and I’m expecting the dogs to be pinching them.”
