Hundreds of passengers sailed into Dorset as the sixth arrival of the season came to Portland Port.

German cruise ship AidaVita docked at the port this morning (14), bringing in 1,266 passengers to the isle. It is the second booking for the vessel at the port this year, having made its first visit on April 29.

It will be followed next week by American ship Marina which will bring in more than 1,200 passengers from the USA.

The port says it will handle 32 cruise ships this year in what will be the greatest number of calls and passengers - 39,000 - to date.

The first ship to sail into Portland Port this year was the German Phoenix Reisen vessel which made its 20th visit on April 3, the first cruise line to reach this milestone. It was followed by the inaugural arrival of the enormous Norwegian Breakaway on April 25, the largest ship to ever dock at the port, which brought in more than 4,000 passengers.
