YOUNG meets old at an evening of fantastic entertainment which will support good causes.

'Scrumpy and Western' superstars The Wurzels – whose members have an average age of 73 – will play at the Weymouth show, sharing a bill with talented local performers including young dancers one of whom, Daisy Coombes, is just seven.

Weymouth Rotary Club, whose members are preparing for the big Fayre in the Square festival at the end of the month, is organising the 'Wurzels and Friends' show at Weymouth Pavilion this Sunday, May 20.

The club says it will be the ideal royal wedding after party, coming a day after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big day at Windsor.

The show has been organised by Rotarian Adrian Atkinson with support from Weymouth Pavilion.

It will be supporting four local charities –Weldmar Hospicecare, Julia’s House children’s hospice, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and Weymouth Lifeboat (RNLI).

Mr Atkinson said the idea came about after new Weymouth Rotary Club president, Robert Sedgbeer, challenged members to come up with ideas for fundraising events during his term of office.

Mr Atkinson thought about an evening of entertainment and discussed the idea with Julie Storey, Pavilion events manager, and the Wurzels and Friends

show was conceived featuring the 'young and young at heart'.

As well as securing the combine harvester driving legends The Wurzels, who remain immensely popular with audiences, organisers wanted to showcase local talent. So also performing will be Dorset’s talented youngsters from WOW Youth Musical Theatre and Let’s Dance, as well as the popular Rock Choir and 'voice of cool swing' Darron Garnett.

Daisy Coombes, from Let’s Dance, is excited to be on the same bill as the Wurzels.

She said: “It’s good to be performing and helping to raise money for charity and I’m really excited to be in this one with The Wurzels because they are famous.”

Wurzel Tommy Banner said: "We are really happy to be returning to the theatre at Weymouth again on Sunday 20th May and look forward to seeing all of our fans."

Mr Atkinson said: “If you would like to help us in supporting four wonderful local charities – and have a great night out – then please get in touch with Weymouth Pavilion and buy tickets.”

The show starts at 7pm. Tickets priced £19.50 for adults and £9.50 for children available from the box office on 01305 783225 or visit weymouthpavilion.com
