Dorchester Town Council finished the 2017/18 financial year £72,000 better off than expected.

The money is now in a special account, totalling , for future projects.

Town clerk Adrian Stuart reported that the underspend had come about through staff vacancies, underspends on a range of items and higher income than expected from cemeteries and community planning. There had also been a £6,000 saving on office supplies.

The town council policy meeting, on Tuesday evening (15th), heard that the council’s finances had been approved by the auditor.

The accounts show a balance of £365,753 carried forward, loan costs of £47,406 and total borrowings of £230,000. The council paid out £654,742 in staff costs during the 2017-18 year, up £10,000 on the previous year, and lists total assets and investments of £7.64 million.
