A resident is opening his garden to the public to raise money for Weldmar Hospicecare.

John Simpson, aged 68, who lives in Upwey, owns an idyllic garden with a stream, rockery, flowers, shrubs and a pond.

He will open his garden to the public on Saturday May 26 and Sunday May 27 from 10am to 5pm.

As well as this, there will be a rock night held in the garden on the Saturday from 7.30pm until late, with local band Skint Imperials set to perform.

Visitors are invited to dress up as their favourite rock stars and give karaoke a go or sit back and look at the stunning night time illuminations.

Mr Simpson said he decided to organise the rock night in aid of Weldmar after people on his street had been affected by cancer.

He said: “It started out as a street party and has grown from there. We have had a lot of people affected by cancer over the last couple of years and everybody is feeling a bit down, so we thought let’s try raise everybody’s spirits a bit.”

“Weldmar have been absolutely fabulous and have backed me all the way, and I will do whatever I can to help them.”

Tickets to visit the garden on the day, and to attend the rock event cost £3 each. The address of the garden is 22 Chapel Lane, Upwey DT3 5NA.

Mr Simpson’s garden will also be open on Sunday June 17 from 10am to 5pm, and on Sunday August 5 from 10am to 5pm.
