Three people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries following car crashes on country roads at the weekend.

Two people were taken to hospital yesterday after a two-car crash in Winterbourne Abbas.

Meanwhile, a woman is ‘fighting for her life’ after a crash involving a tractor in Wareham on Saturday.

Yesterday, a Vauxhall Corsa and Astra were involved in a collision which took place near where the B3159 meets the A35 in Winterbourne Abbas.

Emergency services attended the scene and a spokesman for Dorset Police said they received a report of a two-vehicle road traffic collision at 2.25pm.

Three road ambulances, an air ambulance and a rapid response vehicle arrived at the scene.

The driver of the Corsa, a 73-year-old woman has been taken to Dorset County Hospital along with the car’s passenger.

They were transferred to the hospital via a road ambulance and are both believed to have suffered serious injuries.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Astra, a 31-year-old man from Devon was treated at the scene.

The A35 was closed both ways following the incident but was reopened later in the afternoon.

Dorset Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to contact them by calling 101 quoting the incident number 55180080710.

On Saturday, there was a collision between a tractor and a car on Furzebrook Road in Wareham.

A woman suffered serious injuries as a result and is reportedly fighting for her life.

She was flown to hospital by air ambulance after the crash, which took place at 8.40am.

Police investigating the collision say the woman, who lives in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, suffered "potentially life-threatening" injuries.

Fire crews based at Poole and Wareham were also called to the scene to cut the casualty free from the wreckage of her vehicle.

The road was closed throughout the morning to allow extensive investigations to take place. It reopened fully during the afternoon.

The tractor driver, a 33-year-old local man, was uninjured.

A spokesperson from the South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 8.45am. A road ambulance and the air ambulance attended.

"We conveyed a female patient by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.

"She was trapped for some time and needed to be cut free by firefighters."

A spokesperson from the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews found a road traffic collision between a tractor and a car with one female severely trapped.

"The female casualty was extricated by the crews and left in the care of the ambulance service."

Police are calling for witnesses to come forward by calling 101.

PC Mark Palmer said: "A female from the Nuneaton area was airlifted to hospital after a collision involving a car and a tractor at 8.40am.

"Fire crews were called to release her from the vehicle and she was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.

"I'd like to appeal for any witnesses to the collision, or anyone who saw the manner of the driving or either vehicle involved before the collision, to speak to us by visiting dorset.police.uk or calling 101."

The casualty was flown to hospital by air ambulance after the crash, which took place at 8.40am on Saturday in Furzebrook Road, Wareham.

Two people injured in a crash on the A35 near Winterborne Abbas are meanwhile being treated in hospital for serious injuries.
