172 new homes approved for Weymouth and Portland

A development of 114 homes on land to the south of Louviers Road has been approved by Weymouth & Portland Borough Council.

The development sits on land currently used for agricultural purposes and includes 35% affordable housing. This equates to 28 homes for affordable rent, and 12 homes for shared ownership. The site will retain two existing and well used public rights of way across the development.

A Persimmon Homes South Coast spokesman said: “We are pleased to be delivering much-needed modern homes for local people at this location, and look forward to playing our part in the generation of new jobs to support the economy in the area.”

Meanwhile, an outline application from Homes England for the Southwell Primary School site on Portland has also been approved.

The development could see up to 58 properties including affordable housing provision. The development will retain an important tree belt and hedgerow, and enhance the existing nature area on site.

This application will now be referred to the Secretary of State as a matter of principle, as the proposal includes the loss of the sports field on the former school site.
