It's finally here - today will see madness descend on Dorchester.

Dorchester's Carnival - revamped as Midsummer Madness - will be taking place in the county town all day today.

There will be events and entertainment in the Borough Gardens, South Street and Brewery Square.

This year's procession - which is a walking procession only - will start at 4.30pm from the Borough Gardens.

The procession will walk from the gardens, through to the marketplace and across to Brewery Square and South Street.

And don't worry, it's still not too late to enter the procession. Town crier Alistair Chisholm, who has been one of the organisers of the carnival, said people are welcome to sign up and join on the day.

And don't think about leaving straight after the procession, because the party (and the madness) will be continuing in the Borough Gardens until 10pm.

The headline act will be the Unravelling Wilburys.

Brewery Square will be hosting a programme of free live entertainment and music from 12pm today.

The line-up for the day includes Juggling Jake from 12pm until 4pm; Elijah Wood from 4pm until 5pm; Nina Garcia from 5.30pm until 6.30pm, Danny Adams from 7pm until 8pm and a Silent Disco with Jay Rees from 8pm until 9pm.

The Casterbridge Male Voice Choir will be entertaining the public outside Barclays Bank on South Street Dorchester at 12.30pm as part of the festivities.

The choir will be performing a wide-ranging selection of music, both classic and contemporary, in the spirit of the weekend’s carnival atmosphere.

There will also be funfair rides and activities at Fairfield car park.
