A man who burgled two Weymouth homes has been jailed for five years.

Geoffrey Brian Conquer, aged 46 and of Carlton Road North, Weymouth, admitted two charges of burglary and four offences of fraud by false representation.

He was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday (15).

Conquer was released from HMP Exeter on February 20, after serving a 36 month sentence for the burglary of a Weymouth home in August 2016.

The day after his release, Conquer burgled an address in Milton Crescent at around 8.45pm.

The victim was at home when she heard the door opening. She searched the property, believing that someone was inside, but could not find anyone.

She then found her handbag, which contained her bank card, was missing.

Later that evening an attempt was made to use the her card at the Euro Garage in King Street - which was refused - and transactions were carried out at Park Corner Convenience Store, Asda in Newstead Road and McDonald’s in St Mary Street.

The total value spent on the card was £46.28.

Conquer was later identified from CCTV footage from the Park Convenience Store.

At around 9.20am on February 22, Conquer burgled another address in Abbotsbury Road.

The victim disturbed an intruder in her house and found a £10 note and some loose change had been stolen from her purse. The man left the property and it was discovered that he had entered through a rear window, which had been damaged using a pair of shears belonging to the victim.

A forensic examination of the shears revealed DNA that provided a positive match for Conquer.

The defendant was arrested on March 6 and subsequently charged with both burglaries.

Detective Constable Lucy Johnson, of Weymouth CID, said: “We recognise the disturbing impact dwelling burglaries can have on victims, who should feel safe in their own homes.

Dorset Police is committed to tackling offenders such as Conquer and ensuring they are brought to justice so they cannot go on targeting people."
