Here is what is happening in Dorchester over the coming weeks (and there's not excuse to be bored!)

AN EFFECTIVE CRIMINAL

A talk on what makes an effective criminal has been arranged at Brownsword Hall in Pummery Square in Poundbury.

The talk will be given by Rob Beckly. Doors will open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

It will be held on Friday, June 22.

COLLEGE OPEN DAY

Kingston Maurward will once again be hosting an open day at the college.

It will be held from 10am until 5pm on Sunday, June 24.

Entry will be free and there will be music by the lake, food and drink, trade stands, an animal park, dog shows and lots of demonstrations.

SUMMER SONGS

Songs for a Summer Evening, a free 40-minute concert, will be performed by the Dorchester Choral Society later this month.

It will be held at the United Church on South Street, starting at 7pm on Monday, June 25.

TASTER SESSION

Casterbridge Male Voice Choir will hold a free taster session for anyone interested in joining.

This will take place from 10.45am to 12pm on Saturday, June 30. Those interested are invited to come along and sit in on a rehearsal or join in if they like.

The taster session will take place at United Church on South Street.

NEUTRALS AT WAR

Christopher Massy-Beresford will be giving a talk on 'Neutrals at War' at the Dorford Centre on Bridport Road.

The talk will start at 7.30pm on Tuesday, July 3 and has been organised by the National Trust South Dorset Association.

AVIATION TALK

The Dorset History Centre will be hosting a talk on 'Aviation around Poole Bay'.

Kevin Patience will be giving the talk.

Doors will open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.

QUARTET TO PERFORM

The Dorchester Piano Quartet will be performing at the Corn Exchange on Thursday, July 12.

Jenifer Curiel (violin), Pasha Willis (viola), Sally Flann (cello), Peter Oakes (piano) with Elizabeth Drew (clarinet) will be performing from 1pm.

The Dorchester Piano Quartet return for the second of their regular visits to Dorchester Arts.

They will be joined for the first time by Elizabeth Drew, one of the regular members of Kokoro, teh contemporary music ensemble of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

CHURCH PERFORMANCE

The Dorset Sinfonia will be performing at St Mary's Church on Edward Road on Saturday, July 14.

The performance will start at 7.30pm.

OPEN CINEMA

A number of family favourites will be shown at Maumbury Rings next month.

Dorchester Open Air Cinema will be returning with free film showings of The Lion King and The Greatest Showman.

The day will start at 3.45pm and end at 7.45pm and everyone is welcome.

It will be held on Saturday, July 21.

SCHOOL FAYRE

Sunninghill Prep School will be hosting its Summer Fayre on Saturday, June 23.

The fayre will run from 12.30pm until 4.30pm and everyone is welcome.

There will be fun and games, dog show, stalls, music, a grand raffle and refreshments.

Entry to the fayre will be free.

FUN AT GARDENS

A family fun day has been organised at Dorchester's Borough Gardens.

It will be held on Sunday, July 22 from 2pm until 6pm and will be in aid of Dorset Mind.

TIME TO LISTEN

Two free listening events will be held in Poundbury.

The events aim to teach people how to listen effectively to others.

The first event will be held on Tuesday, June 26 from 10am until 12pm and the second will take place on Tuesday, July 10 from 6pm to 8pm.

They will be held at Inspirations on Middle Farm Way in Poundbury.

CREEPY CRAWLIES

Brewery Square will be hosting a creepy crawly show on July 28 from 12pm until 3pm.

The family event will feature insects and animals and everyone is welcome.

SUMMER FUNDAY

A popular family event will be returning to Poundbury next month.

Poundbury's Summer Funday will be held on the Great Field on Saturday, July 7 from 12pm until 8pm.

The day has been organised in aid of Dorchester Community Nursery School and there will be something for all the family.

There will be stalls, bouncy castles, rides, food and drink, live music, a football tournament, a dog show and much more.

WALKING WITH GHOSTS

Dorchester's much-loved town crier, Alistair Chisholm, organisers regular ghost walks.

The spooky walks are held every Thursday night from April to October and anyone interested should meet outside The Kings Arms Hotel from 8pm.
