The heat is being turned up for an action-packed weekend in south Dorset.

Flaming June is coming to a sizzling end with a heatwave expected to extend into next week.

People are being advised to stay cool and safe as temperatures soar.

If you're out and about and not planning to hit the beach there's plenty to do.

In Weymouth the weekend is dominated by the armed forces celebrations as the resort salutes the military in style with displays and a grand procession (see timetable below).

New for this year, an iconic Spitfire will roar over town before tomorrow's parade. Motorists are warned the Esplanade and side roads will be closed from 10am to 1pm for the parade.

Elsewhere, the Chesil Rocks festival takes place today in a beautiful setting at Langton Herring featuring a host of great bands as well as family entertainment

Organiser Tim Warren pleads with people attending by car to not leave their vehicles in the parking field overnight as the land must be returned to the farmer. He says cars which intend to be left should be parked 'sensibly' on the outskirts of the village.

Today also sees glasses raised for the Hall & Woodhouse charity beer festival at the Blandford St Mary brewery.

If you fancy your hand at tennis Melcombe Regis Tennis Club in Fernhill Avenue, Weymouth is holding an open day today from 10am-4pm.

Refreshments available for free throughout the day with prizes, goodies and more. No need to book just turn up on the day wearing trainers.

Tomorrow the clock will be turned back for the Sutton Poyntz Victorian Street Fayre.

Visitors to the event, which runs from 11am to 5pm, can browse stalls manned by villagers in traditional Victorian dress, enjoy demonstrations of traditional crafts such as pottery and thatching, as well as listen to live bands and watch local entertainers on two stages.

There is also a dedicated children’s activity area.

Redlands Community Sports Hub in Weymouth is the venue for a family fun day with live music tomorrow.

The Mind Over Matter mini festival raising money for mental health charity Mind will be held from 11am-10pm.

It will feature a food village, trade stands and music from The Leggomen, Cuba Libre, Powelly, Nathan Jon, The Chase, Peacock Suit, and DJ Bonney.

Football fans will not be disappointed – there will be a huge screen so fans can watch England's World Cup match against Panama.

The match will also be screened outside the Rendezvous on the harbourside with Custom House Quay below the Town Bridge closed from 10am to 4pm.

If you want to escape from the football then head out into the countryside and enjoy Kingston Maurward's summer open day and food fair tomorrow.

It includes a dog show, birds of prey, fabulous food and drink, circus skills, student demonstrations and live music. It's free entry and runs from 10am-5pm.
