A special event is being held this weekend to celebrate one woman's contribution to her community.

Clare Ash has organised MamaFest, taking place this Saturday in memory of her 'magical mum' Carol-Ann Hains.

Mrs Hains died in July 2017 and sadly, Clare also lost her father Robbie Dunster, a former Weymouth and Portland Borough Councillor, in December. Mr Dunster was given palliative care by the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust, and funds raised at the event will be donated to the charity.

Clare described the care given to her dad as 'exemplary'.

Clare added: "We have organised MamaFest as a celebration of all my mum did for our once small community of Chickerell. My mum was instrumental along with a dedicated committee in the organisation of Chickerell Carnival which over the years raised enough money to build the Willowbed Hall.

"My mum was also a youth leader, who alongside her husband Allen Hains fought to get us a building for Chickerell Youth Club. We have chosen the name MamaFest because 'Mama' was the name given to my mum by her adoring grandchildren."

One of the highlights of Saturday's event will be talent contest Chickerell's Got Talent.

The all-day event offers fun for all the family and visitors can also enjoy live music, face painting, a bouncy castle, refreshments, a hog roast and grand raffle.

It takes place at Willowbed Hall from 1pm to 8pm.

Clare added: "MamaFest is an opportunity for family and friends to get together and enjoy a fun-filled day with a variety of entertainment; welcoming local people to come and support this event in aid of the incredible Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

"Stalls will include arts and crafts, home baking, cream teas, hog roast, face painting, fair ground rides as well as live music provided by local talent including our youthful headliners 'The Undecided'. We want this to be an extra special celebration of Chickerell, so grab your picnic blanket and chairs and come and join us."
