Here's what's happening in the county town over the coming weeks - and there's plenty to keep you busy.

BARN DANCE

A popular barn dance will be returning to Dorchester this summer.

The event will be held at the Corn Exchange and will include a performance from Ceilidh band Black Sheep.

It will be held on Friday, August 24 from 7.30pm and will be supporting Friends of Dorset County Hospital.

TABLE TOP SALE

The Dorchester Opportunity Group is holding a Table Top Sale on Saturday, July 14 from 11am until 2pm.

There will be tea and coffees, ice lollies and a raffle.

Tables are £5.

It will be held at the Prince of Wales School.

BIODIVERSITY DAY

Members of the public are invited to Hardy’s Cottage this summer to meet its team of volunteer ecologists.

The team will be setting up moth traps to collect data about the variety of species that can be found in Hardy’s garden. The moths will be displayed in dishes so people can have a close look.

Booking is not needed and dogs on leads are welcome.

The event will be held on Friday, July 20 from 11am until 3pm.

Normal admission charges will apply.

KEEPING WARM

The Warm Festival will be returning to Dorchester’s Borough Gardens on Sunday, July 29.

Once again the festival will be supporting The Steve Charles Help A Friend Fund, a charity who help people in Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester and west Dorset with financial difficulties resulting from medial problems.

There will be live music, food stalls, a bar, a raffle and much more.

Organisers of the festival are looking for bands and musicians to perform and are encouraging anyone interested to get in touch.

Sponsors are also needed for the festival.

It will run from 11am until 7.30pm onwards.

MEET THE FORCE

The Dorchester Detachment of the Army Cadet force is holding an open evening on Thursday, July 19 from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

The event will be held at the centre on Poundbury Road.

Everyone is welcome to come along and meet the cadets and instructors.

QUARTET PERFORMANCE

The Dorchester Piano Quartet will be performing at the Corn Exchange.

Jenifer Curiel (violin), Pasha Willis (viola), Sally Flann (cello), Peter Oakes (piano) with Elizabeth Drew (clarinet) will be performing from 1pm tomorrow.

They will be joined for the first time by Elizabeth Drew, one of the regular members of Kokoro, teh contemporary music ensemble of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

TIME TO SHINE

The Dorset Sinfonia will be performing at St Mary's Church on Edward Road.

The performance will start at 7.30pm on Saturday, July 14.

YOUNG TALENT

Two rising young percussions from the Birmingham Royal Conservatoire of Music are making a five-day tour of Dorset venues, from Lyme Regis across to Dorchester, with a lunch-time visit to Glastonbury. The music is young, energetic and varied.

Tzu-Jo Huang is from Miaoli, Taiwan, and Alexander Henshaw is from Dorchester.

The performance in Dorchester will be held at Durnovaria Hall on Kings Road in Fordington from 7.30pm until 9pm on Tuesday, July 24.
