Hundreds of flashy cars will descend on Weymouth tonight.

This evening marks the return of the popular Porsches on the Prom event.

According to Paul Butcher, one of the event’s organiser, more than 300 cars are expected, lining the seafront from the Pier Bandstand to to Pavilion.

The event, running from 6pm-10pm, is being organised by Porsche Club Great Britain’s Dorset branch.

Mr Butcher said: “Last year there was around 4,000 people who came to see the event and around £30,000 was spent in the hotels and restaurants by the visiting drivers who came from all over the country and abroad.”

Mayor of Weymouth and Portland Gill Taylor, is set to attend the event along with the Weymouth Carnival Queen.

Porsche Club GB emerged in the early 1960s and is now Europe’s largest Porsche club, formally recognised by Porsche GB and Porsche AG.

The club organises a range of events across the country including factory tours, track days and motorsport championships. The free Weymouth event is sponsored by Porsche Centre Bournemouth which will also be displaying some of the latest models.

If you own a Porsche and would like to get involved you’re still able to do so.

You just have to turn up in your Porsche and marshals will direct you to your parking place.

Remember to keep your speed below 10mph while manoeuvring on the promenade.
