Visitors to this year’s Weymouth Carnival can expect to hear a loud woof as a special team of trained dogs are set to perform.

The RAF Police Dog Demonstration Team has been announced as the latest addition to this year’s carnival line-up and will perform on both days of the carnival.

This year marks the RAF’s 100th anniversary making the occasion even more special.

The Chairman of Weymouth Carnival, Stacey Andrew, said: “We are absolutely delighted that The Royal Air Force Police Dog Demonstration Team will be displaying in the beach arena on both days of Weymouth Carnival this year.

“This is not only a first for Weymouth Carnival but something that is rarely seen on the south coast, so we are so pleased that they have agreed to come to Weymouth Carnival especially in the year that the RAF celebrates its 100th year. We do hope that lots of people will come to see the displays which will be in the afternoon on both days, and the exact times will be detailed online on the carnival website in the next few days.”

The team consists of 10 RAF Police Dog handlers and their dogs. The team spends hours together to create crowd-pleasing shows that demonstrates the professionalism and ability of the air force.

RAF Police Dogs play an important role in military operations around the world including helping to protect airfields and military assets and recovering evidence and detecting drugs. The leader of the dog demonstration team says the biggest challenge of performing at this year’s event will be keeping the dogs out of the sea.

Warrant Officer Phil Brown, RAF Police Dog Demonstration Team Technical said: “We are all looking forward to performing in Weymouth, especially as the arena is on the beach. Our biggest problem will be keeping the dogs out of the sea as we have one or two ‘Water Babies’ who are extremely fond of swimming. I remember fantastic summer holidays with my family in Weymouth and it will be great to celebrate the RAF 100 year there. The team thrives on crowd participation and we encourage everyone to cheer the handlers and dogs on.”

As we often say; The louder you cheer, the faster and higher they go”.

The carnival takes place on Tuesday August 14 and Wednesday August 15. Visit weymouthcarnival.co.uk
