A woman has been disqualified from driving for 12 months after she stole an unattended vehicle in Weymouth.

Cher Bianca Fisher, aged 40, currently presiding at HM Prison Eastwood Park in Gloucestershire, appeared at Weymouth Magistrates and pleaded guilty to taking a motor vehicle without consent, using a motor vehicle without insurance and without a licence and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

The charges relate to an incident that occurred on Friday, February 2 of this year at an address in Weymouth.

Prosecuting, Lee Turner told the court the owner of a Volkswagen Polo left the doors open and engine running whilst they returned to collect something from their property in Weymouth.

He said Fisher, who was walking past, then got into the car and drove off.

The incident was reported to police and Fisher was spotted driving the car on Rodwell Road at approximately 9.45pm.

Mitigating, Kenny Sharpe said: "This was a random incident. She [Fisher] was walking past and she saw an opportunity and took the vehicle.

"She has instructed me to apologise for what happened."

He added the vehicle was undamaged and returned to the owner.

Chairman of the bench, Pamela Homer said described the incident as "opportunistic".

Fisher was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
