A section of the Nothe Gardens in Weymouth is set to be lit at night following the installation of new lamp columns in a £30,000 scheme.

Thirteen Victorian lamp columns, which were rusty and inoperable, have been replaced with similarly styled ‘traditional’ columns. The replacement lighting will benefit from modern low energy lamps and will incorporate LED technology.

The new lights have been fully rewired and have a life cycle of 50 years. The scheme will cost approximately £30,000 and can be extended in the future, if funding permits.

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council Community Facilities Briefholder Cllr Kate Wheller said: “The replacement of these lights will make a huge difference to people walking through the Nothe during the evening.

"It will not only enable people to enjoy the gardens for longer, but it will also add an increased level of safety as well as looking very attractive.”
