A school in Weymouth was visited by a member of the county council’s education committee.

Councillor Andrew Parry who sits on the committee for Economic Growth, Education, Learning and Skills visited Holy Trinity Primary School on Thursday.

It comes after the school received a ‘good’ rating from Ofsted inspectors during their June visit.

Councillor Parry said he was very impressed with the calm atmosphere and happy children as he looked around the school. He told Headteacher Fiona Daykin that he was particularly interested to see how the school has improved and thoroughly enjoyed his visit.

He explained: “I was delighted to accept an invitation from Mrs Daykin the headteacher to visit this inspirational school.

“The fantastic news from Ofsted that Holy Trinity has now been rated as ‘good’, should give everyone confidence in this key provider of primary education in the borough.”

“The challenges faced in reaching this significant achievement are testimony to the combined efforts of strong leadership with support from effective governance and delivered by staff. I applaud everyone involved.”

The councillor’s visit coincided with Year 1’s Ugly Bug Ball day with the year group dressing up as mini-beasts.

Last half term pupils enjoyed identifying and naming common plants whilst studying mini-beasts habits and bug hunting in the school.

The day provided a great opportunity for the children to widen their understand of the insect world.
