A while ago the government of the day decided that the country would go to digital TV and to fund this they would sell existing analogue frequency channels to be called Freeview.

This was accomplished after sometime but with reservations this being that there was insufficient money to convert the local Wyke Regis TV transmitter for Weymouth and it was decided to only provide 15 Freeview channels.

This action was a social injustice as the population in 2014 according to records was 64,000. To receive all Freeview channels the only option was satellite TV which to many it requires a satellite dish (which may require permission to erect).

This does not include the increased cost in electricity usage. It would seem it would be better to call Freeview Payview in future.

As usual this action targeted a very large venerable portion of people including pensioners, sick and disabled, those in care homes and the very poor.

Local TV companies suffer because that cannot provide complete TV sets with Freeview. Successive governments and MPs have failed to respond to requests to rectify this mater.

It would appear that South Dorset does not exist only at reelection times for all intents and purposes is a foreign country. There is simple solution, upgrade the local Wyke Regis transmitter to its full Freeview capacity and restore the social injustice perpetrated. Let’s have a campaign’ Upgrade the Wyke Regis TV transmitter’.
