With reference to the letter of one of your contributors on the subject of the efficiency and performance of the health service, he does need to distinguish between our appreciation of the truly wonderful care and effort of those struggling to maintain its standards and our deep concern that their vital resources – staff, funding, hospital and surgery closures are being severely reduced.

This applies equally to the other public services mentioned, where the efforts of a reduced staff force in the police, prisons, social services and all council run organisations combined with gross under-funding are being hopelessly undermined. I hope he finds nothing ’comical’ about the way this government is running our country.
