Firefighters tackled a blaze alongside the railway line near Corfe Castle.

Crews were alerted just before 1.30pm to reports of a fire on the railway embankment.

Swanage Railway services between Corfe and Norden were suspended while the fire was tackled.

Firefighters used two main lines and beaters to extinguish the fire involving approximately 200m by 80m of ground.

Three fire engines and an off-road vehicle attended.

Police provided support and the B3351 was closed between Corfe Castle and the junction with Currendon Hill.

A crew from Swanage is due to attend the scene later this evening to reinspect the site to ensure there are no further hotspots.
