Shame on you, to all those borough councillors who voted against the single most important issue for the future development prosperity of South Dorset, and the catalyst for the whole of the county.

That is the line of the Western Relief Road – the Jurassic Highway – the Jurassic Corniche as I like to think of it.

It would open up the beauty of the Fleet and access to Portland (the Jurassic Coast capital, and the home of Portland Harbour).

This line is essential to avoid irreversible planning mistakes, and maintain some belief that it could be built.

In my opinion this road is essential to release the future development accessibility for the immense potential of Portland Harbour and beyond – it is the final piece of the jigsaw, without it there will be increasing traffic problems holding back the area to mundane mediocrity, rather than allow it to fly and flourish.

What a fiasco in turning down this opportunity.

I cannot believe it.

What on Earth were you thinking?

To condemn the area to congested mediocrity.

You have done the people of South Dorset a massive disservice.

How disappointingly short-sighted; how utterly blinkered; if it wasn't so serious, it has shades of an advert from a well known high street spectacles retailer that the hapless buffoon should have gone to.

As reported in the Echo (Mon, July 30), may I suggest that Cllrs Kate Weller and Ray Novak (and the other misguided council members) make an appointment without delay, because their "vision" for South Dorset is seriously lacking and worse than previously thought!

This poor decision will do untold damage and create untold negativity.

What a lot of nonsense for Kate Weller to suggest that the Western Relief Road will only relieve traffic congestion in Wyke – it would relieve all through traffic from Chafeys Roundabout at Southill, including the main town crossroads, the infamous Asda junction, the Boot Hill and Rodwell corridors, before it ever gets to Wyke.

Perhaps she needs to change her spectacles!

I believe that the benefits for the Jurassic Corniche Highway are overwhelmingly positive to the whole of South Dorset.

I believe this will become increasingly obvious; its line should therefore be sacrosanct! How could it ever be thought of otherwise.

What a disaster, you should be ashamed of yourselves for allowing this to happen.
