It appears the Department for Transport, in its infinite wisdom, is to start issuing Blue Badges to people with hidden disabilities’, including autism and mental health conditions.
The whole point of the Blue Badge scheme when it was first introduced was to allow people with physical disabilities to park in designated parking spaces close to shopping areas etc, allowing them extra space to disembark their vehicles, some of which had wheelchairs on board, hence the Blue badge logo of a person in a wheelchair
The Blue Badge scheme is abused enough already with fake badges, stolen badges and badges used by other members of the family when the person it was issued to is not even using the vehicle.
Issuing these new badges will just add to the problem.
I fail to see why someone with mental disorders or autism needs to use a disabled space, which are scarce enough as it is.
