Funding is available to support community and voluntary groups in Weymouth and Portland.

The borough council is launching a one year only fund of £50,000 to allocate to local groups in 2018-19.

Priority will be given to supporting new or recently-formed groups, which fulfil the council’s community priorities. Particularly those that support young people, and operate in the areas of most need – Chapelhay and Rodwell, Littlemoor, Melcombe Regis, Underhill and Westham. Applications from other groups will be considered thereafter.

There is no restriction on the amount of grant applied for but a full breakdown of project costs, including match funding will be required.

Cllr Jon Orrell, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s Briefholder for Social Inclusion, said:

“Community and voluntary groups make a real difference to many people in Weymouth and Portland. The council is keen to help support new and established schemes that target our most marginalised areas and people. We want to help practical projects that support our priority groups over the next year.”

To be eligible for funding, applicants must:

* Operate in one or more wards in Weymouth and Portland

* Meet at least one of the council’s community priorities

* Show the funds will benefit projects operating or supporting local residents living in the borough

* Be voluntary, non-profit-making or charity operated with no unnecessary restriction on membership

* Demonstrate good management

* Have an appropriate safeguarding policy if working with children and young people or vulnerable adults

* Have an equal opportunities policy or statement

* Show a need for their project that will result in a community benefit

The funds will be provided to organisations who meet at least one of the Weymouth and Portland community priorities – supporting young people, older people, the vulnerable, health and wellbeing, safer communities and the natural environment

Funding won't be available for existing projects, staff costs or loan repayments. Grants must be used within one year of receipt.

The closing date for applications is Monday, September 17.
