Yoga is known to cleanse the mind, body and soul - but now includes the beach.

Leah Miles, who runs the Yoga with Leah, organised her first beach yoga and beach clean at Middle Beach, West Bay.

Members of the class were invited to attend the lesson as per normal, or they could participate for free if they helped Leah with a beach clean beforehand.

The scheme started because Leah was inspired after being disheartened and concerned by the amount of rubbish she collected walking back from Eype Beach.

Leah said: "I was disappointed to find there was more rubbish than I could carry.

"I wanted to do something that would have a really positive impact on our beautiful environment and raise awareness of a problem which is not only an immediate one but has long lasting and wide-reaching effects, especially as people are more aware of the problems of plastic pollution now, littering like this has to be addressed.

"I'm really pleased with the response I got and will be doing events like this again."

Leah was joined by 10 people for the clean, with each person collecting one bag of rubbish.

Those that attended the event described it as 'soul medicine', 'magical' and 'such a lovely way to start the morning and weekend'.

After hearing about Leah's efforts, Karyn Punchard, director of the Dorset Waste Partnership, said: "This is a great initiative and we'd like to say thank you to Leah for her efforts.

"I'd also like to remind Dorset residents that we have information and equipment available to borrow if individuals or communities wish to organise their own litter picks."

Following the success of the session, Leah will be holding beach yoga sessions on a pop-up basis throughout the summer.
