More may be spent on Weymouth’s central seafront toilets – if councillors agree to find an extra £24,000 for what they describe as an ‘enhanced’ design.
If approved by the August 14 borough council management committee the new design for the former tourist information office will include 22 unisex toilets, an extended beach office, four disabled-friendly toilets, a family room and beach showers, as well as a single storey extension for two small lettable spaces incorporating a beach-facing kiosk.
The cost of the scheme has been put at between £370,000 and £424,000 with a warning that actual costs will not be known until tenders have been received.
The committee will also be told that an investigation has started into providing an additional toilet towards the Pavilion end of the beach after the existing temporary toilets are removed at the end of the season.
Approximate costs for a modular toilet in the area have been put at £55,000.
