Weymouth Carnival will begin tomorrow after months of anticipation.

Although there has been a wet start to the week, sunny weather has been forecast with temperatures set to soar, meanwhile holidaymakers and visitors alike are expected to flock to the seafront.

The first day will start off with a woof as the brand-new dog show gets underway.

This will start at the Pavilion end of the beach at 10am and will carry on into the afternoon.

Chairman of Weymouth Carnival Stacey Andrew said: “There’s a lot to look forward to with plenty of things going on.

“I’m really looking forward to the RAF Police Dog Display Team, who will perform at 1.30pm, they’ll be the highlight for me. But all the other dogs at the show will be fantastic I am sure.”

The dog show is being sponsored by the Fantastic Sausage Factory in Weymouth.

Miss Andrew added: “Dennis, who is the shop’s owner, will be fronting the dog show, doing all the commentary. We have got some great prizes for the dogs.”

There are plenty of categories for dog owners to enter, including ‘waggiest’ tail, most fluffy and quickest sausage eater.

The annual torchlight procession will take place in the evening at 9pm.

Miss Andrew said: “We all love the torchlight procession and it always looks fabulous. It’s different this year – because of the high tide we are going from the pavilion end of the beach to a certain point then turning around up to the seafront, then down to the food village in the Pavilion car park. It’s a different course this year.”

This will be led by deputy mayor of Weymouth and Portland Borough Council Councillor Allison Reed.

Miss Andrew added: “I have been checking the weather and tomorrow and Wednesday look nice and sunny, not too hot. I hope everyone enjoys everything we have put on.

“There’s lots for children to do on the beach. We have got sport and games going on with circus skills taking place in the food village, so people will be able to try their hand at juggling."

Programmes will be sold on tomorrow and on Wednesday at various points along the seafront.

Weymouth Carnival will take place tomorrow with the main day on Wednesday.
