Despite a wet start, a festival designed to bring different cultures together was a success.

The Dorset One World Festival was held on Saturday at the Dorchester Borough Gardens - and the weather wasn't going to dampen any spirits.

Highlights of the day included African drumming, a 'poundfit' and zumba workshop by Chucky and performances from Antigua Joe of Calypso, Reggae, Ska and Soca.

Families were also enjoying the different foods and treats on offer, including a Taste of Thailand and Artic Cow ice cream.

Speaking at the event, Emma Scott from Dorchester Town Council, said: "It's really lovely to be back in the Borough Gardens for the One World Festival.

"It's great to see the amount of community support that this event has and it's brilliant to see people of all ages and cultures coming together to enjoy the festival.

"Everyone has been loving all the different types of music here today and the atmosphere is great.

"Despite a rainy start to the day, the sun came out for Antigua Joe who was very popular and it has been another successful year."

Shaz Burke, who was born in Africa, was at the festival with her three-year-old daughter, Ila.

She said: "I've lived in Dorset for more than 20 years, I love it here. It's so beautiful.

"I came here with my daughter a few years ago and we absolutely loved it.

"It's so frustrating that the weather wasn't nicer, considering all the sun we've had lately. I think it probably put a few people off which is a real shame, I know so much time and effort goes into this festival.

"But despite the rain, a lot of people did come - the tent was full during the performances. Ila loved Antigua Joe and wouldn't stop getting up to dance.

"We'll definitely come back next year - let's just hope the weather is better."
