It is time for this witch hunt to cease when referring to people with hidden disabilities.
How DARE someone think that the young lad with a heart condition, whose mum parked along the Esplanade last week, that they have the right to question their need for a BLUE BADGE and then deface their Mobility car?!
They is a very long and detailed form to be filled in so that young people can have a DLA which qualifies them for Mobility car, which incidentally is NOT, free contrary to some peoples perception.
The high rate mobility component award is taken each month in exchange for the car for three years and often a down payment is required to be put down in order to get a car suitable for the person's needs.
At the end of the three years, normally, the car has to be handed back and the selection process stated all over again to find suitable car. Once the young person reaches the age of 16, DLA ceases and another award has to be applied for asking such invasive questions about toileting needs etc.
Not easy nor what anyone wants to do but hoops have to be jumped through to get what some consider unnecessary. So please think before criticising hidden disabilities unless of course you have x-ray vision and can see their neurological, autoimmune, cancer or heart conditions and can see for yourself!
