As I write, at the end of ‘the season’, the sun is blazing down on a very busy Weymouth.

It’s Sunday with the first of this weekend’s two large cruise ships docked at Portland Port; tourists are swarming round the town, adding to day visitors and us locals lapping up everything that’s good about Weymouth.

There has been an increase in visiting cruise ships this year with even more scheduled for 2019.

While yesterday, over at Weymouth train station, yet another vintage train excursion came to town, ten coaches full of people who had started out from Worcester for a day trip.

During the summer months, again we have been privileged to be the destination for more steam trains.

Not forgetting the new seasonal Saturday Great Western Railway service from Salisbury through to Weymouth and on to Corfe Castle.

As a resort we compete with others for new avenues of incoming tourism, how fortunate we are!

But we mustn’t rest on our laurels, expecting these ‘gifts’ for ever.

We need to work on other way to ensure Weymouth & Portland remains one of the most popular ‘must visit’ areas of the South. Others are envious and, quite rightly, will be thinking of ways to outdo us.

Meanwhile, let’s be grateful for all that comes to us ‘on a plate’.
