AFTER last week's hard fought win Chris Burton's Dorchester Rugby Club are looking to tomorrow's Southern Counties South trip to Oldfield Old Boys with new-found optimism.

Gaining their first points of the season has given the county town side a much needed confidence boost for what is largely still an evolving side.

Although the training has been good with real intensity shown in some sessions, the team so far has failed to execute Burton's game plan with any real success.

The forward pack is starting to get a settled look and contains established senior players such as Robert Hodges, Daffyd Wright and Steve Hodgeson.

It is in the backs that consistency has been hard to achieve, mainly due to the unavailability of key players during the first weeks of the season.

There is no doubt however, that fly-half John Firkin has bought some much needed stability and direction to the team's play, and the side is led as well as ever by captain Rich Bament.

Tomorrow's clash with Oldfield, who also appear to be struggling at the wrong end of the table, not only presents the perfect opportunity for further points, but also to establish Dorchester's growing confidence in their style of play.

Bridport will be hunting their fourth consecutive Dorset and Wilts Division One South win when Westbury visit the Brewery Ground tomorrow (3pm).

The Blues currently top the table as they bid for a speedy return to Southern Counties South.

However, head coach Paul Ninnim is not expecting an easy ride against Westbury.

"I'm pretty happy with things so far," he said. "Although we have got a couple of tough tests coming up.

"Westbury, who have got a pretty big pack apparently, although they haven't won a game yet and then we have got Swanage and Wareham.

"Swanage and probably Bournemouth Seconds, who are playing very well at the moment, will be our biggest threats this season."

Weymouth face unbeaten Swanage & Wareham II at Monmouth Avenue tomorrow (3pm).

The Seasiders are on a two-game unbeaten run while the Swans' second string have picked up three wins out of three so far in Dorset & Wilts One South.

Weymouth captain Tony Worle is confident going into the clash.

He said: "Over the years we've not faired too well against them but we are very confident right now. It's going to be the hardest test we've faced at this early stage in the season but on our day we can compete with the best.

"Tomorrow will give us a good indication of how well our pre-season preparations have gone. We've got a very strong squad and we are at home, so there are no excuses."

The Seasiders have been forced into one change from the side that beat Westbury last week. Hooker Richard Barclay is unavailable due to army commitments so James Borrington steps into his shoes.

Puddletown host North Dorset II in tomorrow's Dorset & Wilts One South clash.

The Villagers will be up against it as Weymouth, who defeated Puddletown 50-3 a fortnight ago, lost to North Dorset in their opening game of the season.

Captain Pete Gordon and his team will look to get back to winning ways after two defeats in their last two games.

Swanage & Wareham also have home advantage tomorrow as they entertain Windsor in South West Two East.

The Swans are yet to taste defeat this campaign with three wins out of three, and will be hoping to record another victory to sustain their position at the top of the table. Opponents Windsor will be in good spirits though, after picking up their first win of the new season against Marlow.
