A person became trapped in an overturned van during a crash on the A35 near Bloxworth last night.

One man was taken to hospital by ambulance, and another person was treated for injuries at the scene of the incident.

The crash caused the A35 to the east of Bere Regis to be closed in both directions, between the A31 Shell Roundabout and B3075 Chitten Hill at Slepe.

A spokesman for Dorset Police confirmed that officers were called to the scene at around 5.40pm by the ambulance service.

"We received reports of a van on its roof, with one person trapped inside", they said.

"Fire also attended. The incident involved a white Ford Transit van and a blue Lexus."

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: "We were called on Tuesday at 5.28pm about a road traffic incident reportedly involving two vehicles on the A35 near Bloxworth.

"A male patient was taken by ambulance to hospital, and another patient was treated by paramedics at the scene."

Traffic was affected between Bere Regis and Poole.

Posting on Facebook at 7.50pm yesterday evening, Purbeck police said police, firefighters and paramedics from South Western Ambulance were at the scene and the road would be open shortly.

They thanked motorists for their patience while emergency services worked at the scene.

Dorset Police confirmed they had left the scene just after 7.30pm.
