Work to repair 'severe defects' on a bridge at Dorchester Road, Weymouth, may cause delays from tomorrow until Monday.
The urgent steel repairs are the second phase of a project by Network Rail, which forms part of the road above the railway line.
So that the work can go ahead, a road closure will be in place between Mercery Road and Roman Close, from tomorrow (Thursday 21) until Monday (25).
Dorset County Council, which is managing the closure, said that traffic will be diverted via Mercery Road, and access into Morrisons supermarket will be via the Manor Roundabout only.
Phase one of the project went ahead earlier this month, after the problem was picked up during an inspection.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: “Safety is our top priority and we regularly carry out visual and detailed inspections of our infrastructure to make sure it is in good condition.
“Severe defects were found in the steelwork of the bridge on Dorchester Road during a detailed inspection which required urgent work.
“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”
