WITH all the help given since the Brackenbury Infant School pond was vandalised recently, wildlife will soon have a clean, fresh home again.
The Underhill community on Portland rallied round following the incident, giving donations and helping to clear the pond of the rubbish that had been flung into it.
Headteacher Zoe Green said: "This has shown how much the community cares for the school and we even had a party of prisoners from the Verne Prison who helped to clear the pond and cut back surrounding shrubs - they did a wonderful job."
There was a further surprise in store when the New Star Inn landlady Marilyn McLaughlin attended a special assembly to present a cheque for £268 towards the restoration of the pond area.
She said: "We'd started a charity bottle for another organisation, but when this incident occurred our patrons insisted that the cash should go to the school."
