A REVAMPED Dorset school has scored top marks across the board in its first Ofsted report.

Frome Valley First School only opened in September, 2006, following the relocation of Owermoigne First School.

Headteacher Helen Boyce said she was proud of the team effort that led to the Crossways school being rated outstanding' in all areas of assessment in just its second academic year.

She said: "It was outstanding in every single area and for this new school in Crossways it's a tremendous achievement.

"It is fantastic for this community to have an outstanding school in the village."

Delighted Mrs Boyce added: "They mentioned the outstanding teaching and the consistency of the teaching across the school.

"Another thing it said was that the children are very caring and supportive of the others.

"It said that by the time the pupils leave they are confident, caring and thoughtful young people - which is a fantastic things to say about nine-year-olds."

The report also commented on Mrs Boyce's role in the school's high standards.

It said: "The school's success is due to outstanding leadership and management at all levels.

"The headteacher's excellent leadership and support has helped create a committed team of staff and governors who are working very effectively to provide a high quality and well-rounded education for each pupil."

Other areas praised included the school's provision for those with disabilities and learning difficulties, participation in community events, the attention paid to health and safety and the quality of pupils' assessment.

One area the report suggested the school could improve was to give children more opportunities to develop their writing skills.
