BUSINESSMAN Dave Higson today revealed his firm Park Engineering is unlikely to be Weymouth Football Club's main sponsor next season.

Mr Higson, a former director of Weymouth FC, is concerned about developments at the Terras.

His comments come after Weymouth owner Malcolm Curtis released a statement informing supporters that his company Wessex Park Limited has assumed control of the land surrounding the Wessex Stadium.

In it he says a transaction has been completed which has resulted in the immediate injection of £500,000 into the club.

Mr Curtis adds the Wessex Stadium and all its facilities remain under the complete ownership of Weymouth Football Club who will have full and uninterrupted use of the land surrounding the stadium.

However, talks are ongoing for Wessex Park Limited to be granted an option to acquire the Wessex Stadium in return for providing the club with a new purpose-built stadium that must be able to provide year-round income.

Mr Curtis also says that Weymouth Wildcats Speedway, which uses land next to the stadium, will be unaffected by the new agreement.

He added that the football club is currently losing around £7,000 a week.

Mr Higson, whose company Park Engineering has been an established sponsor of the club, is concerned about the developments.

He said: "It is not far off what I said would happen but Mr Curtis has done or said nothing to convince me that it is going to benefit the club and I still do not like it.

"The question I would like to ask him when I see him is why can't he keep it all under Weymouth Football Club? And why has he had to split the land?"

Park Engineering's current agreement with the club expires at the end of this season. Mr Higson said: "I will always support the club but as main sponsor that is probably going to change."

He added that he was concerned that shareholders were not being kept up to date about developments.

In response to Mr Higson's comments, Mr Curtis said: "I think it is incredibly disappointing and I have nothing else to say."
